Amazon Prime Day is basically Amazon’s birthday party or anniversary sale. The first Prime Day in 2015 commemorated Amazon’s 20th birthday. Meanwhile, Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days savings event is sort of a pre-pre-Black Friday sale that kicks off the holiday shopping season. While it’s called Prime “Day,” the event has actually started to run for multiple days.

You must be a Prime member to take part in Prime Day and Prime Big Deal Days. If you are, you’ll get some of the best deals of the year on tech, clothing, home goods, toys, subscriptions and much more.

What are the Best Shopping Tips for Prime Day?

Prime Day is massive, with thousands of deals and a ton of hype. Follow these tips to have a successful Prime Day shopping experience this year.

1. Remember That Prime Day Always Starts Early

Like any great event, there’s always a pre-party for Amazon Prime Day. On the same day (June 1) that Amazon announced its 2026 Prime Day dates, it launched early deals. Prime members can check out the early deals now. We expect these will change in the lead up to Prime Day.

2. Look for Ways to Earn Prime Day Shopping Credits

Amazon sometimes lets you earn shopping credits in advance of Prime Day. We will share if Amazon offers shoppers ways to earn Amazon credit to spend during Prime Day 2026.

3. Let Alexa Help You

If you have an Alexa device, that little speaker might have deals for you. In fact, Alexa will send you a personalized guide to the best deals for you, based on your preferences and shopping history. Meanwhile, you can set up deal and price alerts via Alexa, and auto-buy.

P.S. By setting up the deal alert with Alexa, you will be entered for a chance to win a $1,000 Amazon gift card. On Prime Day, 100 winners will be selected.

4. Know the Different Types of Prime Day Deals

There are different types of deals on Prime Day.

  • Some Prime Day deals last the entire event.
  • Prime Day also offers Amazon’s famous Lightning Deals. These deals drop seemingly at random and last for only a short amount of time (or until they sell out).

If you see a status bar with “number claimed” and/or a ticking clock next to a deal, you’re dealing with a Lightning Deal and need to act fast to get it.

5. Put Deals on Your Wishlist in Advance

You’ve probably already heard the advice to add items to your cart early. However, in your rush to check out, you might accidentally buy something you want to purchase.

We recommend making a wishlist instead. This trick will keep everything you are eyeing for Prime Day neatly organized so that you can pounce when the price drops.

6. Use the Amazon App to Get Deal Alerts

On the Amazon app, you get another benefit: The ability to activate push alerts when items that you’ve added to your wish list go on sale.

7. Remember the Best Deals Aren’t Just on Physical Items

Amazon Prime Day offers plenty of savings on subscriptions, including Amazon Music and Audible. Expect to get the first few months for basically free if you sign up during Prime Day. Meanwhile, you can get your summer entertainment lineup set via Amazon Prime Video streaming deals (which are already available).

8. Don’t Miss Out on Grocery Deals

Amazon has been making forays into the grocery field for years now, and it uses Prime Day as a reminder of that. You can often find deals on Whole Foods and Amazon Fresh purchases.
